Samaritan’s Purse is a charity with branches all over the world that work to better the lives of those less fortunate through a variety of compassionate initiatives and foreign aid.
Scotty was fortunate enough to talk to spokesperson and veteran volunteer at Samaritan’s Purse, Lynette Beck, who had a lot to share about the upcoming event.
“I’m just a really ordinary average person and I like to think that I can make a difference to somebody else’s life in this world”, Lynette said about her 20 years of advocacy and charity work with Samaritan’s Purse.
Samaritan’s Purse is making lives better through their “Operation Christmas Child” campaign this OCCtober. That isn’t a typo, the OCC hopes to gain a surge of momentum in October in order to maximise smiles this Christmas.
The aim is for Australians and New Zealanders to pack shoeboxes with gifts for children, along with donating ten dollars to cover the costs of shipping, then dropping their donation off at the locations that will operate throughout the month.
With a goal of 275,000 boxes this year, Lynette is confident that Australia’s compassion can surpass the 2019 total of 273,160, with toys, non-liquid hygiene items, school supplies and clothing all sought after as box-fillers.
“It brings a tear to your eye when you hear adults say, ‘I was given school supplies, so I could go to school’”, Lynette said.
The efforts that drive the widely successful faith-based operation resulted in a wholesome chat about the merits of donating, with more details on how to contribute on the website.
