SA loves libraries

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the population of South Australia at 30 March 2019 was 1,748,630 people (source).

In 2018 there were a staggering 14,229,383 items borrowed in libraries across South Australia including books, DVDs, CDs, eBooks, AudioBooks, and digital magazines.

SA grows on average around 3,500 per quarter, so if at the end of 2018 there were around 1,745,000 people in SA, that’s an average of 8 items each person borrowed in the year!

There are over 500,000 active members of Libraries in SA. With so many South Aussies using their local libraries regularly, the future learning and education of the state is assured.

There are 74,201 eBooks and AudioBooks available through OverDrive/Libby (here) and 6,718 magazines and newspaper titles available to borrow electronically through PressReader (here)
