Its time to get to know The Takeover!
Written by Oliver on November 23, 2020
Every weeknight from 7pm, 1079 Life’s The Takeover quite literally takes over the airwaves with their fun and charismatic energy.
There is never a dull moment with Maz and the crew. Yet, you may not know the guys and gals behind the voices.
We say it’s time that changed! So we sat down with the team and spent a little time asking them some questions so that you don’t have to.
1. What is your motivation to do radio, and specifically, The Takeover?
Maz: I love that I’m able to help distinguish the media landscape in Adelaide, especially for and on behalf of young people, whose may not always feel as though their voices are being heard. More than anything, though, I love that I can actually call expressing and sharing my faith with the world a job! How incredible! I’m so blessed to be in a position where I can grow my own faith by encouraging other young people (and young at heart) to grow closer in their own relationships with Jesus. It’s such an awesome gig, and one I’ll always treasure and hold close to my heart. Radio is such an intriguing medium that I’m falling more and more in love with. The way we can reach anyone in the world at any time through today’s technology is so powerful, and it sends shivers down my spine to think that the words coming out of my mouth can influence so many! To this day I still struggle to get my head around the power of radio!
Tom: I love radio! I think it’s the most personal outlet in connecting to an audience. I think it’s just such great fun especially when you are doing it with great people. So after being involved with Arch D Radio for so long I’ve loved being a part of The Takeover!
Lauren: I have always had an interest in the media industry, specifically radio. I have volunteered at other community radio stations but The Takeover is a great opportunity to make friends with the same interest and have some fun – all while on air
Matt: I’ve been told I have the face for radio *laughs* and a good voice for it. I love music and also chatting with people so The Takeover is fun and fits in with my work schedule.
2. Have you guys always been interested in working in the media?
Maz: Yes and no. I always envisioned working in TV as a little kid, but also dabbled into the idea of working in the health industry, and for a long time wanted to be both a hairdresser and primary school teacher! I went into Law and Psychology straight out of high school, but soon realised the media was where I really wanted to be, and in 2016 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Management) at UniSA.
Lauren: 2. Yes and no. when I was younger I wanted to be an actress but when I realised my skills were not going to cut it in that industry I defaulted to a media degree. I realised pretty quickly that radio was definitely something I want to pursue.
Oli: Yes, but I was also never sure if I’d actually do it! It’s pretty amazing when I step back and look at where I am sometimes.
Dom: I haven’t actually. I used to be very interested in music and that’s where I put most of my time, but only recently has media become a big interest of mine.
Tom: Yes, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in – sports journalism in particular.
3. Maz, This ones especially for you. What’s the biggest highlight you’ve had hosting The Takeover?
Maz: For me, dissecting the ‘heavy’ topics which we’re constantly told are important to young people gives me the most fulfilment. Inviting listeners to open up on and learn more about mental health and wellbeing, looking after and loving our neighbors’ and ourselves, and developing our relationships with Christ through learning more about ourselves is what I love most about my role. Speaking to those who’ve overcome hardship and learning more about God’s love has been the greatest highlight for me throughout this journey so far.
4. Ok guys, its time to get serious….. What is your coffee order?
Daz: I don’t drink coffee, but I do fancy a nice hot chocolate with a marshmallow on top!
Lauren: Coffee doesn’t really like me very much but I do love a good chai latte.
Oli: Tea plz!!!!
Maz: An almond milk cappuccino!
5. Alright alright, super serious now….. What is your favourite TV/streaming series at the moment?
Matt: Tintin (always) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Oli: My fav is Daredevil! But I’m currently waiting for the next episode of The Mandalorian Season 2.
Lauren: Ooh that is a super hard question. I watch so many shows I had to create an excel spreadsheet to keep track . currently I’m watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the New Girl and Criminal Minds.
Daz: It’s a close call between Black Books and The Mandalorian!
Dom: My favourite TV show is still Friends but also have a soft spot for Criminal Minds. Total opposites in the spectrum of shows but that’s okay.
6. This is a big one, pineapple on pizza? Yes or no?
Maz: YESSSSSSS! Every day of the week, YES!
Tom: Pineapple on pizza? Yes or no? Yes for me. But am not willing to go to war for it!
Dom: Noooooooo! No pineapple on pizza.
Lauren: Pineapple only belongs on pizza.
Daz: Absolutely, yes! People don’t know what they’re missing!
Oli: Yes!!!! It’s the healthiest thing on there!
7. Before we go Maz, one final question for you….
What plans does the show have for 2021 and beyond?
Maz: In 2021 we want to hear more from YOU! What you’d like us to discuss, investigate and report on. I’m so excited to see our new local music segment, Behind the Mic with Kylie Brice, only grow stronger throughout 2021, and shine a spotlight on even more local talent!
There you have it! A few questions we were able to ask The Takeover team so you didn’t have to but don’t worry, there is more to come! Check out our Facebook and Instagram for additional answers from The Takeover.
The Takeover would also love for you to join them which you can do each weeknight from 7pm for fun freebies and laughs here on 1079 Life.
