A little slice of New Orleans in North Adelaide, complete with a hurricane and gumbo. Zkye Crompton Harris is a blues and jazz singer who takes you on a mini history lesson while singing songs from all the great blues ladies. With songs from Ma Rainey, Bessy Smith, Sippie Wallace, Koko Taylor, Big Mama Thornton, Etta James, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Bonny Raitte and a couple of originals by Zkye, it’s a toe tapping good time.
Set on the deck of Lost Barrel Bar and Grille in Norwood, you felt like you were sitting in a blues bar in New Orleans.
Gumbo was served about 7:30pm, and the singing started about 8pm and ran through to 9:30pm.
Zkye was accompanied by Damo on a number of instrument, with Zkye herself playing the piano for a couple of songs.
