Discover a closer connection to Jesus with the Emmaus Walk

This article is from our friends at Emmaus, an international, inter-denominational organisation, and part of The Upper Room ministries. Other facets of this organisation include Chrysalis for young adults and Face To Face for the over 60’s.
The Emmaus Walk is a time to discover a closer connection to Jesus, as the disciples did in Luke 24 when they shared the journey to the town of Emmaus with Christ.
Their faith was re-explained, grace re-experienced, Christian community realised and the body of Christ renewed through Christ’s disciples.
The purpose of Emmaus is to renew the Church as the body of the risen Christ in the world, through the renewal of church members, as faithful and committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Walk 3-day experience, based at Nunyara Conference Centre in Belair generally occurs in August, with 2 consecutive Walks, a men’s and a women’s.
During the 3 days, pilgrims (those attending) will hear talks by clergy and lay persons, participate in table discussions and fun sharing-times, quiet reflections and be showered with love, laughter & very good food.
To attend, a pilgrim needs to be sponsored by someone who has previously attended a Walk. The role of the sponsor is an important one and pivotal to the pilgrim gaining the fullest experience from the Walk.
However, the 3 days are not the finish of the experience. As pilgrims leave and return to their homes, churches and jobs, they are then on their ‘Fourth Day’, that is, every day following their Walk.
