Jonathan Almonte grew up in Villa Maria, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC before moving to the gang-infested slum of Capotillo on the outskirts of Santo Domingo. He was registered in Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program when he was seven years old.

Through his time in the program, his educational, nutritional, medical and physical needs were taken care of in a way he had never experienced before.

After being accepted into Compassion’s Leadership Development Program, Jonathan focused on linguistics, with application in the English language. Jonathan is also completing his theological studies with Wisdom & Integrity Institute.

He is fluent in Spanish and English and enjoys every opportunity to speak about God’s mission for the poor, passion for children, and purpose for His people, as well as the global impact of the local church.

Today, Jonathan is the Manager of Supporter Engagement for Compassion Dominican Republic where he helps to shape the strategic partnership with churches, pastors, sponsors and donors for the holistic development of 68,000 children in 205 churches. He lives in Santo Domingo with his wife Kary and their son, JD.
