Guest Profile – Dr C. Glenn Cupit
Mondays on Drive with Scotty from 4pm – 6pm.
Dr Glenn Cupit recently retired from many years teaching child development to early childhood educators. Glenn specialises in children’s interaction with electronic media and spiritual development with a doctorate addressing children’s spiritual development in secular environments. Recent publications include Educating superheroes and fairy princesses; Perspectives on children and spirituality; and The marriage of science and spirit. Married with two sons and three grand-children, he has been a church elder, children and families missioner, camp leader, chair of Scripture Union South Australia, children’s media consultant and advocate, musician, actor, and puppeteer.
Glenn believes children’s spirituality is deeply affected by the media to which they are exposed and so, since the mid-1970s, Glenn has worked with the Australian Council on Children and the Media to promote quality media provision for children. This has involved everything from being educational advisor for Humphrey Bear, conducting research on the impact of commercially available videos on children, appearing before tribunals and enquiries, and educating parents, to, latterly, offering reviews of popular movies identifying the value they offer children, and caution parents should exercise.
