The Hitching Post
I’ve been reminded recently that it is important to be deliberate in our communications with others. Being direct and honest, being respectful but standing up for ourselves in appropriate ways. Saying exactly how we feel, and how much people mean to us, rather than risking the assumption that our unspoken affections translate it for us.
I’m taking this reminder about ‘deliberateness’ and applying it to my whole Christmas season. Being deliberate in the gifts I buy, the cards I send, the orders I place, the plans I make. Deliberately trying to ensure that my communication with others is always a blessing, both with those I know and those I don’t. Don’t get mad at the flustered shop assistant, don’t rage in the packed car park. Don’t pack in so many events that all the fun is lost in the busyness. Do take the time to explain what we are doing and why to the precious little ones in my life. Do take time to relive the memories of Christmases past and bask in the ones being made in the present. Do make an effort to bless those around us less fortunate than we are.
I pray your Christmas is deliberate. Deliberately safe. Deliberately blessed. Deliberately full of love – just as God was when sending us his Son.
