It’s not too late to join The Million Dollar Run!
On April 23rd Andrew Biszczak set out on a 3000km journey to raise funds for Debra Australia.
When Andrew and his wife Sonia met Kate Turner their lives were changed for ever. Kate had Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) a rare disease where children are born without the “glue” that holds the skin together. It is a rare condition which means there isn’t much in the way of help. Children born with the condition are called Butterfly Children due to the fragility of their skin.
Even though it wasn’t his child or his problem, Andrew knew something had to be done, so he set out to raise $1,000,000. Hence The Million Dollar Run. In order to do so, he gave up most everything – including selling his house and 4 months of his life!
On Saturday he finished his 3,000km, having run from Victor Harbour to Brisbane in 80 days. And he only went through 7 pairs of trainers!
Kit and Pete caught up with him this morning to find out where to next? Andrew says he’ll continue running.
“It’s an addictive passion of mine, it’s a sense of freedom,” he said, “[although] I probably don’t love [running] these endurance distances non-stop”.
Of course he will continue to raise awareness for EB and is looking at maybe some 24 hour events instead.
But for now it’s time for a fresh start somewhere new where he can focus on time with his family and following his passions.
Debra Australia is a volunteer based organisation who support the Butterfly Children.
