SMG School Chaplains are positive role models who bring compassion to students and families through ongoing pastoral and practical support. The service provides a unique mix of social, emotional and spiritual support, role modelling and mentoring, school and community engagement and extra-curricular contribution.
“Andrew has contributed significantly. He has not only been the Chaplain in the school he has been a support person for staff and students, no matter what background. He really embodies somebody that is caring, somebody that listens really well. He takes the time out of his day to see if people are ok.” Anita Zocchi, Principal, Adelaide High School.
Andrew helps students transition from primary to high school, he runs a breakfast program, is involved in after school tennis and table tennis, supports students having trouble fitting in, or feeling anxious about workloads, pastorally cares for individuals and families suffering from grief or loss and runs lunch time programs for students.
“I became a School Chaplain because I really enjoy working in schools and working with young people. I had really good teachers myself who were great role models and who were connected with the community and the Church. As a School Chaplain the unique role of supporting the spiritual side of people is very fulfilling.” Andrew Babirat, Chaplain, Adelaide High School.
