Game of Life
Coaching after hours.
Most players don’t really know what their coaches get up to when they’re not actually coaching. It’s like seeing your primary school teacher at the shops. It’s just weird! But a good coach is coaching even when they’re not coaching.
For me, I will spend time working out how the weekends interchange will work, I will be contacting individual players about the coming game, I’ll be working out what we need to do during the game. The aim is to ensure that when the team takes to the field, everything has been done to help them be their best, individually and as a team.
There’s a lot of stuff going on that the team doesn’t see. And it’s the same with my spiritual life.
Most of the time, I have no idea what God is up to. I go about my day doing my thing, living my life the way I believe God has planned for me. But I can only do this because I know that He is working to make sure I can achieve my best, that my team mates can achieve their best.
I rarely see what God is doing specifically, how He is moving hearts and minds and events that will intersect with my life in myriad ways. But I have complete confidence that everything that DOES happen, happens because He allows it, ordains it and has it completely in His game plan.
My team doesn’t need to know what the coach is thinking and doing every moment, as long as they trust that the coach has their best game in his sights. And so it is with God. I don’t need to know exactly WHAT He is doing because I am completely confident WHY He is doing it.
