Being True – Having your event reflect you
We all know that its important to be yourself, to show others our true self, who we really are. It’s funny, because I often find that when people plan a special life event, they forget this and plan an event around who they want to be (or who they want others to think they are).
If I have one piece of advice for anyone planning a major life event, be it anniversary, special birthday, engagement or wedding, it is this – BEFORE you get caught up in colours, sparkle and the myriad of options, take the time to sit down and think about what you want your event to say to those that attend. What memories do you want them to leave with, what essence of the person/people being celebrated should remain?
If you take the time to write down how you want people to feel at the end of the event, then you have a central point, a focus, a grounding peg to check all of your event decisions around.
Let me illustrate – do you want people to remember how they danced until their feet hurt and had so much fun? Then make sure you choose a venue with a dance floor and great music that doesn’t have to be turned down at 10pm. Or what a calm and serene experience your event was? Maybe choose a beach venue with gently lapping waves, or a winery off the beaten track to celebrate your love. Or what a romantic evening they had rekindling memories of the past? Then go with candles, soft lighting, soft colour palettes and maybe some golden oldies playing during dinner.
It isn’t just one thing that makes an event ‘your style’, it’s the effect of having similar threads that reflect who you are interwoven through the entire day.
